[most of the following text typed, hand-written or holograph text in italics] Mr. W. C. Spence, Salt Lake City, Utah. Dear Mr, Spence, Referring further to your letter of the 15th in which you wrote regarding President Smith's four sons, who purpose sailing on the S.S."Arabic" the 27th. of April, as ad- vised you, we submitted the matter to our New York Office, and are now in receipt of their reply today. They write as follows: "We regret exceedingly that under existing circumstances, it "will be impossible for us consistent with the agreement to "make any reductions in the rates for passage of the Smith party. The only thing that you can do is to give them as "you suggest the best second class accommodation at their rate" At the time I wrote you before on this matter, I felt that it was very doubtful if anything could be done now that the agree- ment between the lines had become practically an iron clad one, and we are being watched very jealously by our competitors However, as a matter of fact, I am prepared to do something special for them for the April 27th. sailing of the "Arabic" from here, and will allot the four young men two first class staterooms to themselves, on the saloon deck , but of course they will take their meals with the other second class passengers in the second class dining room. They will however have first class stateroom accomodation. I enclose plan show- ing the rooms I am marking off for their use, and I hope that this will be satisfactory. Yours faithfully, RHF-AJC.
